ChatGPT Outage: AI Platforms Crash Simultaneously

Multiple major artificial intelligence services experienced simultaneous outages yesterday. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, and the AI coding tool Cursor all saw spikes in user-reported problems within a half-hour window. OpenAI's ChatGPT outage alone drew over 340,000 reports globally. This marks its largest outage by Downdetector report volume in over a year. The disruption affected 15 separate ChatGPT components, including login and image generation. Anthropic's Claude also had a parallel disruption, impacting its web interface and developer API. Grok, developed by Elon Musk's xAI, was affected too, with its company status page confirming an active outage. SpaceX later attributed Grok's issue to an outage at a computing center in Memphis, Tennessee. Cursor, an AI-powered coding tool, cited the concurrent Grok and Claude issues for its own problems. Google's Gemini also saw a spike in user reports, though it was a narrower disruption. This unusual coincidence of multiple competing AI platforms failing at once raises questions about the resilience of AI infrastructure.
