ChatGPT, Reddit, Roblox Under EU's Strictest DSA Rules

ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox are now under the European Union's strictest digital safety laws. The European Commission placed them under closer oversight through the bloc's Digital Services Act, or DSA. What's interesting is that ChatGPT is identified as a Very Large Online Search Engine, while Reddit and Roblox are Very Large Online Platforms. All three services report over 45 million monthly users in the EU, exceeding the threshold for maximum supervision. ChatGPT alone had about 159 million monthly active users in the EU over the past six months. This new status means these companies must comply with requirements to minimize risks associated with their services. This includes annual evaluations of systemic risks like illegal content, child safety, and users' mental health. They also need to conduct independent audits and provide data to regulators. The deadline to comply with these DSA obligations is the end of November, giving them four months. With these latest additions, a total of 28 platforms and search engines are now in the EU's most stringent category. This matters because non-compliance can lead to fines of up to 6% of their global annual turnover.
