ChatGPT Work: Cloud Browser for Secure Web Access

OpenAI has introduced a new ChatGPT Work feature that allows it to navigate websites requiring a login without revealing your credentials to the model. Here's how it works: the feature signs into websites using a virtual, cloud-based computer. This keeps the browsing session separate from your local computer, protecting your open tabs, cookies, browsing history, and passwords. What's interesting is that the work can continue even if you close the ChatGPT app or power down your computer. OpenAI states that an additional review model checks sign-in requests for phishing. ChatGPT Work pauses while you sign in, and your credentials go directly to the cloud browser, not to the model. After authentication, ChatGPT resumes its tasks. The cloud-based browser doesn't store your username and password; instead, it saves cookies for returning to authenticated sessions. You can clear browser data for individual sites or all sites if you wish. Users have control over which sites ChatGPT Work can access, with "Always ask" as the default. You can also set permissions to "Auto approve" or "Always allow," though OpenAI discourages the latter. This new feature aims to automate tedious online tasks, potentially freeing up time for more creative work.
