OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work, an AI agent designed to autonomously handle complex workplace tasks for hours. This new tool combines their popular chatbot with the Codex coding tool to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and websites. It connects with major platforms like Microsoft 365, Google Drive, Slack, and Notion, and includes enterprise governance controls and real-time monitoring. This launch is OpenAI's direct move into the enterprise market. GPT-5.6, which powers ChatGPT Work, comes in three tiers: Sol for complex reasoning, Terra for mainstream applications, and Luna for high-volume deployments. Sol is priced at $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens, and OpenAI claims it is more token-efficient for coding tasks. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasizes the importance of safety and confidence in their models. The company pitches GPT-5.6 as competitive with more expensive models, offering twice the speed at a lower cost. However, the main challenge is earning the trust of IT leaders to allow an AI agent to operate autonomously within their systems for extended periods. OpenAI has built in security features like automated red-team evaluations to address these concerns. Sol also features an "ultra" mode that coordinates four AI sub-agents. This new development could significantly change how businesses automate their operations.
