ChatGPT Work: OpenAI's New Workplace AI Agent

OpenAI is transforming ChatGPT into a workplace AI agent called ChatGPT Work. This new AI can handle complex assignments and work autonomously to create spreadsheets, presentations, and documents. What's interesting is OpenAI also introduced GPT-5.6, a new model with stronger reasoning and improved use of reference materials. This launch comes as AI companies compete to embed AI agents into business workflows. Rival Anthropic has a similar offering called Claude Cowork. OpenAI reports that adoption of its workplace tools is growing, with Codex, an AI coding agent integrated into ChatGPT Work, now having over 5 million weekly users. Finance teams are already using these tools to speed up reporting and forecasting. The company says ChatGPT Work includes enterprise controls for security and oversight. This new push means businesses need to decide how much autonomy to give these AI systems.
