Claude Enterprise: New Controls Tackle AI Budget Overruns

Anthropic has released new administrative controls for Claude Enterprise. These controls are designed to help IT and finance teams manage the cost and usage of their AI models. The updates include model-level entitlements, a detailed analytics dashboard, and customizable spend-threshold alerts. These features are now available to all Claude Enterprise customers through their admin console. This comes as companies face significant AI budget overruns. One company reportedly spent $500 million in a single month after deploying AI access without usage caps. Uber's chief technology officer noted that their entire 2026 AI budget was consumed in just four months by agentic coding sessions. Microsoft also began canceling internal Claude Code licenses due to similar issues. The problem stems from agentic AI's high token consumption, with some tasks using 1,000 times more tokens than standard queries. This means budgets based on older AI models are quickly depleted. These new controls are crucial for managing AI spending and preventing future budget crises.
