Claude Fable 5 Banned: US Gov Cites National Security

Claude Fable 5, an AI model, has been banned globally just 72 hours after its release. The US government issued an emergency export control directive, forcing its creator, Anthropic, to disable both Fable 5 and its related model, Mythos 5, worldwide. The directive came after Amazon researchers reportedly used prompts to get Fable 5 to produce information useful for cyberattacks. This information was shared with government officials. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick then ordered Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to suspend the models, citing national security concerns. Anthropic disagrees with the ban, stating that a "narrow potential jailbreak" should not lead to recalling a model used by hundreds of millions. They are working to restore access. This situation highlights the ongoing tension between rapid AI development and national security regulations.
