Claude Sonnet 5 Launches: Cheaper, Smarter AI Model

Anthropic has officially launched Claude Sonnet 5, confirming months of speculation. This new AI model is designed to be its "most agentic Sonnet model yet." It can plan, use tools, and operate autonomously, abilities previously found in larger, more expensive systems. Anthropic states Sonnet 5 improves on its predecessor, Sonnet 4.6, in reasoning, coding, and knowledge work. It performs close to the company's flagship Opus 4.8 model but costs significantly less to run. The introductory pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens through August 31st. On safety, Sonnet 5 shows lower rates of hallucination and improved resistance to prompt-injection attacks. The model is now available across all Claude plans and via API. This new model offers advanced capabilities at a more accessible price point.
