Coinbase Business: AI Agent Payments & USDT Support

Coinbase Business is expanding its payment services to include support for AI agent payments and transactions using $USDT, also known as Tether. This means companies can now accept payments from autonomous AI agents and from customers using the popular stablecoin. Here's the thing: when an AI agent pays, the funds settle instantly in $USDC, Coinbase’s own stablecoin. What's interesting is that this uses the open standard x402, allowing AI agents to make payments through existing checkout systems. For $USDT payments, the amount automatically converts into $USDC before being deposited into the merchant’s account. This simplifies treasury management for businesses. The bottom line for merchants is that these new features open up a new revenue channel as AI-driven commerce grows, and they make it easier to handle different digital assets.
