Estonia's AI Digital IDs: New Era for AI Security & KYC

Estonia plans to give digital identification numbers to AI agents. The goal is to better control what these AI agents can access and the actions they perform for humans. Philipp Pointner, Chief of Digital Identity at Jumio, notes this sets a new precedent for auditing AI agent activities. He explains that AI assistants can already open accounts, book travel, and make purchases. This disrupts traditional identity verification and compliance frameworks like "Know Your Customer," or KYC. Pointner says we are moving towards "Know Your Agent," where KYC processes must adapt to verify an AI assistant's permissions and authority. Estonia's initiative helps distinguish between human identity and agent authority. This will help preserve security and user control.
