Firefox: Mozilla Adds AI Off Button for User Choice

Firefox is giving users a button to turn off AI features. This decision comes from Mozilla, who says user choice is more important than forcing AI on everyone. The "AI-off" button is now available on both desktop and mobile versions of Firefox. This feature was fast-tracked after the Firefox community raised objections to AI in the browser. While only about 1% of users turn off all new AI features, and 3% turn off some, Mozilla believes in offering the option. They note that some users still need AI features like translation. Mozilla is also developing "Smart Window," a beta feature that lets users pick which AI model they want to use, such as ChatGPT or Gemini. This system also filters sensitive data and allows users to control AI memory. Mozilla's CEO, Anthony Enzor-DeMeo, says the issue with AI is not just about features, but also access and privacy. He highlights that most of the world's population has never used AI, and he predicts more advertising will be added to AI services. This matters because it impacts user control and privacy in an increasingly AI-driven digital world.
