Florida Sues OpenAI: "Mass Shooters Aided" by ChatGPT

Florida's Attorney General has filed an 83-page lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman. The complaint alleges that "minors have become addicted" to the tool, "vulnerable people have been encouraged into suicide," and "mass shooters have been aided." The lawsuit cites two cases where alleged shooters reportedly used ChatGPT while planning violent acts. OpenAI states its models consistently encouraged users to seek mental health resources and confirms ongoing cooperation with law enforcement. The company says ChatGPT is a general-purpose tool used by hundreds of millions daily and that they continuously strengthen safeguards to detect harmful intent.
