Frontier AI Threats: Companies Boost Security Budgets

Many organizations are boosting their security budgets due to the cyber capabilities of frontier artificial intelligence models. IBM reports that 85% of organizations now plan to increase security spending, a significant jump from 64% previously. This change comes as organizations recognize the advanced cyber threats posed by frontier AI. About 75% of organizations are rethinking how they use AI agents in security operations because of these threats. While over half use agents for threat detection, only 18% apply them to vulnerability management. AI-enabled attacks accounted for about 25% of malicious breaches in a recent period, and these breaches increased by 56% over the prior year. The average cost of an AI-enabled breach is $6 million, which is $1 million more than other breaches. These attacks often involve deepfake impersonation or AI-enabled malware. As AI makes cyberattacks faster and cheaper, the cost of breaches continues to rise for victims. This means businesses need to adapt their defenses to keep pace with evolving threats.
