Gemini for Mac: System-Wide Voice Dictation Rolls Out

Google's Gemini for Mac now offers system-wide voice dictation. Users can long-press the Fn key to speak naturally from any window on their desktop. Gemini uses intelligent dictation, transcribing speech to text and removing filler words. It also catches mid-sentence corrections to ensure accurate text. An optional screen-aware reasoning mode lets Gemini see what's on the Mac screen to help with tasks. This means you can highlight content and have the assistant edit, summarize, or compose directly within the app you're using. Spoken requests can even generate or edit images, like creating a dark-mode version of an on-screen design. Holding the Fn key and speaking transcribes speech directly into the active app, with screen context for advanced commands. Double-pressing the Fn key still activates the Mac's built-in dictation. This new voice mode is rolling out globally to all Gemini app users on macOS in English, with more languages planned. This update aims to keep users within their current applications while using Gemini.
