Gemini for macOS: New "Speak to Window" Voice Feature

Google is rolling out a new voice feature for Gemini on macOS. This update allows users to create, edit, and summarize content directly within the app or desktop window they are using. It's launching globally for all Gemini app users on Mac in English, with more languages coming later. By long-pressing the Fn key, voice input opens in any desktop window, placing the result at the cursor. This intelligent dictation mode turns speech into polished text, removing filler words and formatting the output. This means drafting and revision can stay in the current window. There's also a separate setting for "reasoning" mode. In this mode, Gemini uses visible on-screen context for more complex voice requests. Users can highlight files, images, or documents and ask for extraction or a summary. They can also select text to request a rewrite or tone change, or create and edit images using spoken instructions that refer to desktop content. This new capability aims to streamline workflows by integrating AI assistance directly into the user's current task.
