GitHub Copilot: Model Choice, Not Loyalty, Fuels Devs

GitHub Copilot's latest release emphasizes developers switching between AI models, rather than relying on just one. Two new models, Kimi K3 and MAI-Code-1.1-Flash, expand choice. Visual Studio Code now allows per-turn model switching, letting developers move between models without losing context. Agent Plugins 1.0 also brings a shared plugin system across Copilot surfaces. The Copilot CLI gains subagent management and queued prompts. JetBrains adds Copilot Memory and Ollama support. What's interesting is that GitHub is not pushing developers towards a single model, but ensuring preferred models are easily accessible. The bottom line for enterprise teams is a governance challenge: Copilot still doesn't record which model contributed to specific code, making it difficult to track.
