GM AI Assistant: Deeper Integration, Personalized Driving

General Motors plans to launch its own AI-powered virtual assistant by the end of 2026. This new assistant will be more deeply integrated with vehicle systems than Google's Gemini AI assistant. What's interesting is that it will use vehicle data, telemetry, and OnStar features. This allows for capabilities not available to generic chatbots. A GM director states the new assistant will combine conversational AI with GM's automotive expertise and OnStar. It aims to better understand a specific car's features, driver style, and owner needs, simplifying daily vehicle use. GM previously integrated Google Gemini into millions of Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles from the 2022 model year and newer. However, GM believes general-purpose AI models have limited capabilities for cars. The company is also working with an unnamed large language model developer on predictive maintenance and other specialized features. This could mean a more personalized and intuitive driving experience for car owners.
