Google search results recently showed that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had died. This false information appeared on Wednesday. Users on Reddit and X shared screenshots and questioned the tech giant. Google later acknowledged the issue, stating the information was no longer appearing in Search. They tweeted, "Thanks for flagging - this is no longer appearing, and was not a manual change by Google." The mistake appears linked to a false change made to Sam Altman’s Wikipedia page. Wikipedia is one of the online sources Google uses for its Search features. When information from such sources is picked up by automated systems, it can appear in information panels. This isn't Google's first Search mistake. In May, it incorrectly answered how many 'P's are in 'Google', saying "Two." It also misspelled 'poop' with an 'R' and its AI overview misspelled 'journalism' with two 'D's. The bottom line: information from search engines is not always automatically accurate, highlighting the need for critical evaluation of online content.
