Sam Altman is not dead, despite a Google search result earlier today. Users on X and Reddit pointed out that Google stated the OpenAI CEO had died today. Google later acknowledged the incorrect result, saying it was not a manual change by them. They suggested that vandalism of public information sources can affect search results. What's interesting is that some commenters blamed Wikipedia vandalism. The revision history for Sam Altman's Wikipedia page shows 22 updates today alone. One update falsely claimed Altman was assassinated and died this morning, before being corrected. Other changes included calling him a "dropout" and altering his last name. Google's knowledge panels, which display information at the top of search results, use various public sources, including Wikipedia. This shows how quickly misinformation can spread online.
