This achievement puts Gemini in direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT. Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the milestone, noting Gemini is the 14th Google product to reach this scale. Other products include Search, Gmail, and YouTube. The app shows rapid growth, climbing from 400 million users in May 2025 to one billion in just over a year. Many users, 63%, prefer speaking to Gemini rather than typing, with busy parents especially relying on voice commands. Users also utilize live camera feeds and screen sharing for problem-solving. Students frequently use file-upload capabilities, attaching documents or images to 38% of school-related requests. The app also generates over 150 million images daily, which is popular for small businesses creating marketing materials. This rapid expansion shows how quickly AI tools are being adopted by a massive global audience.
