Googlebook: Chromebook's AI-Powered Successor Arrives

Google has launched a new laptop range called Googlebook, which is the successor to the Chromebook. This new premium laptop category runs Android with Gemini AI embedded at the operating system level. What's interesting is that Googlebook integrates AI deeply, offering a more intelligent and responsive interface. It includes features like the Magic Pointer for contextual suggestions and customizable AI-driven widgets. The Magic Pointer, developed with Google DeepMind, enhances user interaction by providing instant suggestions based on what you point at on the screen. For example, pointing at a date in an email can prompt a meeting scheduling option. Googlebook runs on what's called Aluminium OS, a version of Android 17 rebuilt as a desktop platform with native multitasking and Gemini woven throughout. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are set to ship these new laptops this autumn. Existing Chromebook users will continue to receive software updates. This launch signals a significant shift in how Google approaches its laptop offerings.
