GPT-5.5 is the most used AI model, capturing over 81% of usage according to new research. This data comes from Overchat AI, a platform providing one-click access to major models. The findings are based on roughly 8.6 million AI interactions from 1.3 million users. What's interesting is that GPT's share has increased to over 80%, even with several new models launching recently. For example, six new flagship text models, two new frontier image models, and two groundbreaking video models all launched within a 90-day window. Other models like Claude Opus 4.7 and 4.6, Grok 4.3, and DeepSeek V4 account for much smaller percentages of usage. Notably, many users continue to prefer the older Claude Opus 4.6 over the newer 4.7. The bottom line is that GPT is dominating real-world adoption, which impacts how people interact with AI daily.
