GPT-5.6 Launch: Sol, Terra, Luna & ChatGPT Work

OpenAI has launched a new version of its AI model, now called GPT-5.6, which uses a new naming scheme for its performance classes. The public release for this generation was July 9th. The new model introduces Sol, Terra, and Luna. Sol is for demanding tasks, Terra for everyday use, and Luna is a fast, affordable option with less computing power. Free and Go plan users get the Terra model by default, while paying customers can switch between all three. A significant new feature is "ChatGPT Work," a productivity tool that accesses connected apps and files to create documents, spreadsheets, or presentations. OpenAI is also integrating its programming tool "Codex" directly into the ChatGPT app. The company states GPT-5.6 is its most powerful cybersecurity model to date. It identified vulnerabilities in Chrome and Firefox browsers during tests. This new model is designed to help OpenAI compete with other AI models, like Anthropic's Claude.
