GPT Live Launched: ChatGPT Voice Gets Massive Upgrade

OpenAI has launched a new voice engine called GPT Live, fundamentally changing how ChatGPT's voice assistant works. This new system is full-duplex, meaning it can listen and process responses simultaneously, much like a natural conversation. The old voice mode operated in strict turns, but GPT Live runs continuously in the background. It decides in real-time when to respond or wait. Two versions are available: GPT Live 1, the full-power version, and GPT Live 1 Mini for free users. Both are on iOS, Android, the web, and Apple CarPlay. Conversations should now feel less robotic because the model processes speech continuously. It can pick up on natural pauses without mistaking them for the end of a sentence. When complex tasks arise, the voice model hands off the job to a more powerful reasoning model while maintaining a smooth conversation. Users can also choose between instant, medium, or high reasoning modes for replies. Extra features include visual cards for information like sports schedules, better background noise handling, and more natural pacing in responses. The voice mode now also integrates with ChatGPT's memory and file support. This upgrade aims to make interacting with AI feel much more intuitive and human-like.
