IBM Bob AI: Legacy Code Modernization & Compliance

IBM has launched its new AI coding agent, Bob, after extensive internal testing. More than 100,000 of IBM's own developers tested Bob across a wide range of systems. This included both decades-old mainframe code and modern cloud platforms. What's interesting is that Bob features built-in approval and rollback capabilities. This means developers can undo any AI-made edit down to a single action. The V2 upgrade, released on June 24, introduces background task execution and granular rollback. IBM sees Bob as more of a compliance product than just a coding assistant. It even offers playbooks for migrating legacy Java and modernizing critical platforms. The bottom line is that Bob is designed for production and compliance, allowing developers to review AI-generated logic before changes are implemented.
