IBM Project Lightwell: AI Speeds Vulnerability Response

IBM, Red Hat, and Palo Alto Networks have expanded Project Lightwell, a cybersecurity initiative. This project helps organizations respond more quickly to software vulnerabilities. What's interesting is this expansion comes as artificial intelligence allows security flaws to be identified faster and at a greater scale. The companies say AI-driven threats can uncover security gaps faster than defenders can patch them. This increases the risk of attacks. Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, stated that AI has compressed the time between vulnerability discovery and exploit from weeks to minutes. Traditional patching methods cannot keep pace. The collaboration combines vulnerability discovery, virtual patching, and software remediation. This aims to reduce the time between finding a vulnerability and protecting against it. Project Lightwell now integrates Palo Alto Networks’ virtual patching technology. This blocks exploit attempts at the network level while permanent software fixes are being developed.
