Executives are reportedly asking the Trump administration for protection from these new alternatives. Dean Ball, from OpenAI, even tweeted about "AI communism" if Chinese models gain dominance. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has acknowledged China's rapid progress and signaled he is prepared to cut prices for OpenAI's models. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has also urged the US to stop selling AI chips to China. This trend could challenge how AI companies fund their large data centers and model development.
