Local AI News Briefing: Personalized, Private Updates

Someone built a bedside AI assistant that reads personalized news briefings without connecting to the cloud. This individual used a local large language model, or LLM, to create a custom morning briefing. The goal was to get news from specific sources and topics, unlike standard smart speaker briefings that often include unwanted content. The builder utilized RSS feeds, which are still available from many news sites, to gather information. For example, feeds from BBC News, The Guardian, and Liverpool FC were used. The automation was built using self-hosted n8n software. An RSS Read node pulled stories, and Limit nodes were used to narrow down over 70 potential stories to just three from each source, resulting in nine headlines. This system allows for a tailored news update. This matters because it shows how local AI can deliver personalized information while maintaining privacy.
