Mastercard's AI Agent Pay: 30+ Partners Join New Network

Mastercard has unveiled a new service called Agent Pay for Machines, or AP4M. This service allows AI agents and machines to make and receive payments at high speed across Mastercard's global network. Over 30 industry leaders are already supporting its adoption, including Adyen, Stripe, Coinbase, and Checkout.com. Mastercard's chief product officer stated this could lead to a "superbloom of AI business models," enabling very high volumes of small value transactions with low latency. These transactions are programmatic and happen in the background of digital commerce. The system builds on Mastercard's existing Agent Pay program and supports various payment types, including cards and stablecoins. It establishes trust through "Verifiable Intent," allowing agents to be recognized across different systems. This could change how digital transactions occur in the future.
