Messaging Apps & AI: 90% Risk Your Privacy, Study Finds

A new study reveals that 90% of messaging apps now include AI, potentially putting your privacy at risk. This is happening even on platforms with end-to-end encryption. Nine out of the top ten messaging apps offer encryption, but AI tools could still expose private data. Signal is highlighted as the most private app, collecting only your phone number and using quantum-secure cryptography. In contrast, Meta's Messenger and LINE are among the worst for data harvesting. Messenger collects 32 out of 35 possible data types. Many of these can be used for things like targeted advertising. The bottom line is that while encryption is common, aggressive data collection and AI integrations are undermining privacy efforts in many popular messaging apps. This means your private conversations might not be as private as you think.
