Meta AI Agent Progress Slower, Zuckerberg Admits

Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg states that the company's AI agent development is progressing slower than expected. This comes after a major restructuring aimed at boosting its artificial intelligence ambitions. Zuckerberg admitted that the company's reorganisation, which included job cuts and reassigning thousands of employees to AI teams, did not go smoothly. He noted that the "trajectory" of AI agent development over the last four months has not accelerated as anticipated. Some key organizational changes have also not produced desired outcomes. Meta laid off about 8,000 employees and reassigned around 7,000 workers to AI-related roles in May. These changes were part of a plan to redirect resources toward AI infrastructure. Zuckerberg acknowledged that executives were optimistic about the rapid maturation of AI agents. Many leaders were concerned about keeping pace with the evolving AI landscape. Despite the slower progress, Zuckerberg remains optimistic. He expects more meaningful returns from AI initiatives within three to six months. Meta plans to spend up to $145 billion on AI infrastructure this year. This admission shows that achieving AI-driven productivity gains may take longer than initially thought.
