Meta AI's Health Focus: Consumer Apps & Safety Concerns

Meta's future AI models will focus on consumer health. This comes directly from Alexandr Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, speaking at the Bloomberg Tech conference. He emphasized that health is critical as they scale these models to billions. What's interesting is that Wang leads the newly-formed Meta Superintelligence Labs, or MSL. Under his leadership, MSL launched its first AI model, Muse Spark, in April. Wang stated that Muse Spark's health capabilities are one of its biggest strengths. Meta plans to keep health as a focus for larger models, potentially integrating these features into consumer apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. However, this trend of health-related AI raises concerns about patient safety and privacy. Notably, Meta addressed biological risks during Muse Spark's development, which influenced the decision not to open-source the model. This means outside developers won't have access to its building blocks. The bottom line is that AI companies are racing to build health-focused chatbots, and Meta is clearly joining this race.
