Meta's 'Watermelon' AI: GPT-5.5 Rival in Training

Meta's new AI model, called Watermelon, is reportedly performing on par with OpenAI's GPT-5.5. Alexandr Wang, Meta's superintelligence chief, shared this development with employees. Watermelon is still in training and uses about ten times the computing power of its predecessor, Muse Spark. Muse Spark launched in April. Wang also clarified a statement from CEO Mark Zuckerberg about agent progress. Zuckerberg's comment about agent progress not accelerating as expected referred to the industry as a whole, not just Meta. An update to Muse Spark is coming soon, promising significant improvements in coding and agent capabilities. This update will be available for Meta AI and the company's new API.
