Microsoft AI Beats Rivals, Cuts Cyber Costs by 50%

Microsoft has launched a new cybersecurity AI model called MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, which outperforms larger models from competitors. This specialized AI, developed in-house, scored 95.95% on CyberGym, a public benchmark for vulnerability reproduction tasks. This is significantly higher than models from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI, which scored between 83% and 86%. Here's the thing: MAI-Cyber-1-Flash works within Microsoft's MDASH system, paired with OpenAI’s GPT-5.4. This combination has boosted MDASH's overall score and, crucially, cut operating costs by roughly half. Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, highlights this cost efficiency. This strategy signals a shift towards using smaller, cheaper, specialized AI for routine tasks, reserving more powerful, expensive models for complex problems. This approach could change how AI is developed and deployed across various industries.
