Microsoft AI Cybersecurity: New Tools, Lower Costs

Microsoft has launched new AI cybersecurity tools, claiming they are both more effective and more affordable than competitors. The company unveiled an agentic model called MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, which operates within another Microsoft security tool, MDASH. This is part of a larger AI-powered security platform named Project Perception. Microsoft highlights its existing internal capabilities as a key advantage for Project Perception. The company states it combines signals, context, models, and specialized agents into a constantly learning defense system. Microsoft also asserts that MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, when integrated with MDASH, outperformed other systems like Mythos, Gemini, and GPT on CyberGym, a benchmark for finding code vulnerabilities. It scored 96%, 12 percentage points higher than the next best. The company emphasized that MAI-Cyber-1-Flash was designed with a focus on safety and underwent independent third-party assessment. Microsoft also claims MAI-Cyber-1-Flash in MDASH can perform its tasks at half the cost of other leading models. Project Perception is set to enter public preview on August 3rd. This development matters because it could change how organizations protect themselves against cyber threats.
