Microsoft Copilot Cowork: Agentic AI for Business Tasks

Microsoft has officially launched Copilot Cowork, an agentic AI system. This new system is designed to complete complex business tasks by coordinating multiple tools and delivering finished outcomes. More than half of Fortune 500 companies are already using Copilot Cowork. Customers include Accenture, Avanade, Capital Group, and Zurich Insurance. One engineering team used it to automate modifying spreadsheets and generating dependency diagrams. Another team reduced the time to compare 4,000 files from weeks to half a day. What's interesting is Copilot Cowork delivers completed work products, not just drafts. It offers cloud-hosted execution, which continues even when a user's device is off. It also features enterprise-grade security and a multi-model architecture. The company says its cost-efficiency model is based on runtime optimization and intelligent selection of information sources. They report average costs per prompt were 30% to 40% lower than using Anthropic's Claude Cowork through Microsoft 365 connectors in internal testing. Copilot Cowork uses a consumption-based pricing model built around Copilot Credits. Access requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot user subscription license. This could significantly streamline complex business processes for many organizations.
