Microsoft Project Solara: AI Agent OS Revealed

Microsoft has unveiled Project Solara, a new operating system built for gadgets that run AI agents instead of traditional apps. This cloud-managed, Android-based platform connects lightweight devices to AI agents in Microsoft's Azure cloud. What's interesting is that Solara uses an edge OS called Microsoft Device Ecosystem Platform, or MDEP. This allows it to run on smaller, power-efficient hardware. Microsoft showcased two reference devices: a desk-style smart hub and a wearable employee badge. The badge, for instance, has a camera and microphone, allowing an AI agent to "see" and provide contextual help in workplaces. The bottom line is that Project Solara reflects a shift towards AI agents as the primary interface for computing, moving away from traditional operating systems and standalone apps. This could change how we interact with technology.
