Moonshot AI Pauses Kimi Subscriptions Amid Soaring Demand

Chinese startup Moonshot AI has paused new subscriptions for its Kimi K3 model. This comes as demand has strained the company's capacity. Moonshot is also preparing for a potential Hong Kong listing and is seeking fresh funding. The company has engaged financial advisers, including Goldman Sachs and China International Capital Corp, to discuss these plans. Moonshot was founded in 2023 and has raised over $5.5 billion in total historical funding. Its valuation reached $30 billion in June. The company stated that user requests for Kimi K3 sharply exceeded forecasts, approaching the limits of existing clusters. New consumer subscriptions are on hold, with available computing power allocated to current paid users. Moonshot also plans to split future memberships into two plans, including one specifically for coding. This capacity crunch highlights the significant infrastructure demands facing AI companies.
