Moonshot AI has released its Kimi K3 model, featuring 2.8 trillion parameters, for free download. This makes it the world's first open-weight model approaching the 3 trillion parameter threshold. Anyone can download it, deploy it locally, and develop with it. This move comes after Elon Musk commented on K3's impressive performance. Moonshot AI's annual recurring revenue exceeded $300 million in mid-June, with API revenue making up over 70%. However, there's a key detail in the Kimi K3 license. If an enterprise uses K3 for a "Model as a Service" business and its total revenue exceeds $20 million in any 12-month period, it must sign a separate agreement with Moonshot AI for commercial use. This shows Moonshot AI aims to prevent cloud vendors from profiting from their model without compensation.
