Moonshot Kimi K3: China's 2.8T AI Model Rivals US Tech

Chinese AI startup Moonshot has released Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion parameter model. This model features native vision capabilities and a 1-million-token context window. Moonshot states that Kimi K3 demonstrates frontier-level performance in long-horizon coding, knowledge work, and reasoning skills. The company claims it outperforms OpenAI’s GPT 5.5 and Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 across most benchmarks. Moonshot says Kimi K3 is the first open model to reach 2.8 trillion parameters. Simultaneously, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for international cooperation in AI governance, emphasizing that AI should always be under human control. He stated that AI development should be a "symphony of global cooperation." This new model highlights the rapid advancements in China's AI capabilities.
