Nokia Genome Shield: AI-Powered DDoS Protection Launched

Nokia has launched Genome Shield, a new security automation system. It offers proactive, always-on DDoS protection. Nokia says this is the industry's first such system. It targets telcos, hosting companies, internet exchange points, and cloud builders. The system combats a shift in DDoS threats. These threats now come from residential proxy botnets, which involve about 200 million compromised devices globally. Nokia explains that attacks now use real subscriber devices, deliver multi-terabit bursts, and rapidly rotate IPs. Traditional methods cannot respond quickly enough. Genome Shield moves protection from reactive to proactive. It uses existing network infrastructure and aggregates threat intelligence from various sources. This includes insights from live malware and botnet command-and-control. It extends existing DDoS defense tools with network-wide automated enforcement. This means blocking command-and-control communications and suppressing traffic. One company, Reddot Technologies, has already deployed Genome Shield. This matters because it addresses a fundamental change in how DDoS attacks work today.
