NVIDIA has unveiled Nemotron 3 Ultra, America's most powerful open AI model. It scored 48 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, making it the highest-scoring US open model ever. This new model runs significantly faster than some Chinese rivals, delivering over 300 tokens per second. However, despite this achievement, Nemotron 3 Ultra still trails behind top Chinese open models like Kimi K2.6, which scores 54 on the same index. The Nemotron 3 family, including Nano, Super, and Ultra, had over 50 million downloads before the Ultra's launch. This development is a notable win for US open-weight AI, but a measurable gap with China's leading open models persists. This matters because open-weight models give developers and businesses a way to build AI products without per-query fees.
