Ocean AI Raises $28M: Next-Gen Email Security Funding

AI-based email security startup, Ocean, has secured $28 million in funding after emerging from stealth mode. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Picture Capital, Cerca Partners, and angel investors participated in this round. Ocean, co-founded in 2024 by Shay Schwartz and Oran Moyal, has developed a platform where specialized AI agents inspect every incoming email. These AI agents assess sender intent, understand conversation context, and review conversation history to detect threats. They analyze infrastructure, files, links, identity, financial requests, and abuse-report mailboxes. What's interesting is that Ocean focuses on sophisticated attacks like business email compromise, vendor email compromise, and AI-generated phishing. It also helps security teams automate the triage of reported emails and provides real-time guidance to employees receiving suspicious messages. CEO Schwartz explains that the challenge now is finding malicious intent hidden within messages that appear normal, especially as attackers use AI to create highly convincing impersonations. Ocean aims to replace superficial filtering by using AI agents to investigate each email, verify context, and identify malicious intent at scale. This could mean better protection against increasingly sophisticated email threats.
