Okta Buys Permiso: AI Agent Identity Threat Detection

Okta is acquiring Permiso Security for approximately $200 million in an almost all-cash transaction. This deal aims to enhance Okta's identity security by focusing on threats to human, non-human, and AI agent identities in cloud environments. Permiso Security offers over 2,500 identity risk signals and specific tools for AI agents, including automated response for compromised agents and SandyClaw, a dynamic sandbox for detecting AI supply chain attacks. This acquisition addresses a growing gap in security, as non-human identities, particularly AI agents, are proliferating rapidly with limited governance. The non-human identity to human ratio has reached 144 to 1, but only 21% of organizations have governance programs for these identities. Permiso's technology, including its SandyClaw sandbox, directly addresses the threat of malicious payloads in AI agent capabilities before they can execute. This move is significant because it aims to protect organizations from the increasing and evolving threats in the AI agent ecosystem.
