The corporate venture arm believes large language models have fundamentally changed the nature of identity. What's interesting is that Okta Ventures concluded in early 2024 that AI agents are becoming "first-class citizens." This means they can act independently across enterprise systems and the consumer internet. This distinction implies agents need their own identities, permissions, and interactions, requiring a new layer of infrastructure. Austin Arensberg, vice-president and head of Okta Ventures, states an entire ecosystem of tooling will emerge to manage these agents. Okta Ventures is now investing in security, orchestration, governance, and infrastructure to make agentic systems viable at scale. This has led them to expand their search for AI-native founders and help existing portfolio companies adapt. The demand for agentic tooling has exceeded expectations, and Okta Ventures is now investing beyond early-stage, participating in later financing rounds.
