OpenAI: Apple Lawsuit "Rotten to Its Core

OpenAI has asked a federal judge to dismiss Apple's trade secrets lawsuit, calling it "rotten to its core." OpenAI argues the lawsuit is meritless and an attempt by Apple to cover up its struggles retaining technical talent. In a 31-page motion, OpenAI's attorneys responded to Apple's claims of corporate espionage. Apple originally accused OpenAI of enticing former Apple workers to share confidential files, hardware blueprints, and trade secrets. This was to support OpenAI's hardware division, which expanded after acquiring io Products, co-founded by former Apple executive Tang Yew Tan. OpenAI's filing highlights that the word "fail" appears nearly 50 times in Apple's brief, suggesting Apple is using the legal system to hide internal issues. Apple's complaint named former employees like Tang Yew Tan and senior systems engineer Chang Liu, claiming Liu exploited a bug to download confidential hardware files. Apple recently sought a preliminary injunction to prevent OpenAI from using alleged trade secrets. OpenAI countered that this request uses false information and is unnecessary. OpenAI faces an August 17 deadline to respond to this injunction motion, with oral arguments scheduled for October 1. This legal battle highlights the intense competition for talent and innovation in the tech industry.
