OpenAI Buys Instant: AI Agent "Firebase" Team Joins

OpenAI has acquired the 10,000-star GitHub Agent, Instant, with its entire team joining OpenAI. This star startup, previously from YC S22, is known as the "AI version of Firebase." OpenAI's strategic goal is to add a "memory layer" for Agents. Instant provides a comprehensive backend infrastructure for AI Agents, covering databases, permission verification, real-time synchronization, and offline caching. It has served over 17,000 registered developers and supported more than 400,000 applications, processing 2.5 billion transactions. This acquisition shows OpenAI is betting big on Agent harness and infrastructure.
