OpenAI has introduced 'Lockdown Mode' for all personal ChatGPT accounts. This new feature aims to defend against prompt injection attacks. OpenAI also added an active session manager, letting users see and sign out of devices linked to their accounts. This optional setting was first available to enterprise users in February. It's designed to protect against hidden malicious instructions that can try to force an AI model to prioritize certain commands over a user's intent. What's interesting is that while it doesn't totally prevent these injections from appearing, it significantly limits an attacker's ability to access sensitive information. When activated, the chatbot will stop pulling external web images and block file downloads. Users can also deactivate the mode for individual chat sessions if needed.
