OpenAI Codex Automation: Record & Replay Feature Launched

OpenAI has introduced a new feature to its Codex macOS app called Record & Replay. This allows users to perform a task once, and Codex watches and converts that demonstration into a reusable skill. This feature shipped on June 18th as part of Codex app version 26.616. It's available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Here's the thing: instead of writing a prompt, users simply show Codex what to do. Codex then creates a "SKILL.md" file, which is a human-readable instruction document, not just a recording of clicks. This file specifies when to use the workflow, what inputs it accepts, and the steps to follow. What's interesting is that this SKILL.md file can be inspected and edited, allowing users to refine what Codex learned. It can also be shared across a team. On replay, Codex loads this file and executes the workflow using available tools like desktop application control or browser actions. The bottom line is this new approach allows AI to learn and automate tasks from a single demonstration, making automation more accessible.
