OpenAI: Codex Control for ChatGPT App on iPhone & Android

OpenAI is now bringing mobile access to its AI-driven coding tool, Codex, through the ChatGPT app on both iPhone and Android. This allows users to remotely supervise their AI agent while it works on their computer's code. Codex is a desktop AI tool designed to write code, run commands, and interact with applications directly on a Mac. Previously, management of Codex required being at the desktop. The new update enables users to check progress and give new instructions from their phone. This feature is currently in preview, meaning not all users will see it immediately. OpenAI confirmed the update will be available on both iOS and Android versions of the ChatGPT app. The timing is strategic, as a competing AI coding tool, Anthropic's Claude Code, has recently gained traction. OpenAI is focusing resources to remain competitive in the AI coding arena. This matters because it provides developers with greater flexibility, allowing them to manage their AI coding assistants even when away from their desks.
